George H. W. Bush Biography Summary: George H. W. Bush (1924 - Present) is famous for being the 41st President of United States. Aside from the Persian Gulf and Berlin Wall Bush was also in power when the Soviet Union dissolved however domestically he faired not so well when he broke his promise on tax increases. This decision would ultimately cost him his second term in office. He was one of the few Presidents’ to take office having had a career in domestic politics as well as foreign affairs with eight years served as Vice President.
 

He has seen his son George W Bush occupy the same chair in the Oval Office and his other son Jeb Bush also made a bid for President during the 2016 election but would not be successful.

George H. W. Bush Fact 1: George H. W. Bush was born on June 12th 1924 and during the 20th century period in history when there were world changing events happening including the First World War, the Second World War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Cold War.

George H. W. Bush Fact 2: In December of 1941 George decided he needed to join the U.S. Navy after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He graduated from Phillips Academy and at eighteen years of age became a naval aviator.

George H. W. Bush Fact 3: He completed his ten month course and was commissioned as an ensign at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi in the United States Naval Reserve.

George H. W. Bush Fact 4: As a photographic officer he was assigned to Torpedo Squadron in September of 1943 and in 1944 he was based on the USS San Jacinto as one of the members of Air Group 51. It was at this time he earned his nickname Skin because of his tall and thin physique.

George H. W. Bush Fact 5: He would also take part in one of the largest and victorious air battles of World War II, the Battle of the Philippine Sea.

Bush Fact 6: During one particular mission in which they were to drop bombs on Japanese installations, while under attack from heavy anti-aircraft fire, Bush’s plane was struck with flak causing his engine to catch fire. Nevertheless he continued on with his mission, releasing his bombs on target and flew his flaming aircraft several mile out to see before he and his fellow crewmate bailed out. His crewmates parachute failed to deploy. Bush was eventually rescued by the lifeguard submarine USS Finback having had aircraft flying overhead to protect him.

George H. W. Bush Fact 7: A couple of weeks after his return from the Pacific George married Barbara Pierce in January of 1945. Together they had six children, George, Pauline, John, Neil, Marvin and Dorothy. Pauline died of leukemia just four years old.

George H. W. Bush Fact 8: Prior to enlisting George had been accepted at Yale University and upon his discharge he enrolled and was accepted into an accelerated program that meant in could graduate in two and a half years instead of the standard four years.
