Biography Summary: Bernardo Morando (1540 - 1600) was one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance period. Bernardo Morando was born in Italy but would move to Poland in his late twenties. In Poland, at this time, the nobility had surplus amounts of disposable income and Morando was able to benefit from so much wealth. For his efforts he was even awarded two houses within the town he helped create.

Bernardo Morando Fact 1: He was born during the Renaissance period in history which began in Northern Italy during the 14th century

Bernardo Morando Fact 2: He moved to Poland in 1569 and began work as an architect.

Bernardo Morando Fact 3: In July of 1578 Bernardo Morando was contracted by Jan Zamoyski, an extremely wealthy Polish-Lithuanian, to create the ideal city.

Bernardo Morando Fact 4: At this time in history Poland’s nobles were among the wealthiest in the world, the extravagant way they lived was eye watering.

Bernardo Morando Fact 11: Bernardo Morandoe would also be responsible for the construction of burgher houses and the prominent star shaped defenses he was also expected to supervise these sites as well.

Bernardo Morando Fact 12: Whilst construction was underway for the new town, he was simultaneously preparing plans for a further two smaller towns, Tomaszów Lubelski and Szargród, also to be fortified, in Podolia.

Bernardo Morando Fact 14: He was major of the city between 1591 and 1593 and was also ennobled.

Bernardo Morando Fact 15: Bernardo Morando married and had children. One of his sons Gabriel attended the University of Padua and would be return to Zamosc.

Bernardo Morando Fact 16: Two years after he completed his town Bernardo Morando died, in 1600 and was given the honor of being laid to rest in the collegiate church that had been completed only a couple of years previously.
